Quilt Surgery.

Today, I will be performing quilt surgery. Since I have never done this before, I'm a little nervous. Here is what I'm up against:

We arrived home from the grocery store this morning, only to discover these nasty holes in my son's new quilt. How did those even happen? I'm not sure, but I will say I'm super grumpy about them. I think the hole in the pink fabric could be contained, but the other? Not so much. I worry that I'm going to have to patch it.

Thoughts? Have you ever performed quilt surgery? Thank goodness this quilt is super scrappy, and the patch won't look too out of place, but still! I *just* finished this quilt.

  1. So sorry to hear about your quilt. It might help to think about the character it adds to the piece. One of my families favorite pieces of furniture is a kitchen table with a big burn mark from an old iron on the top. Each time one of us refinishes the piece the other siblings warn them NOT to sand out the burn mark! Anyway, I've done quilt surgery but only of the patching type. You could consider an applique over the area to hide the spot, too.

  2. :-O Oh no! (All I can think to write are a serious of gasps and exclamations, but I don't want to seem crazy). You poor thing. I have no fixes. I am sorry. I know you'll find a way to make it better. How on earth did it happen???? :-(

  3. Ack!! I think a patch hand sewn on top will fit right in -- or maybe machine sewn, so that it can stand up to whatever challenges it may face?

    1. Thanks, Esther! I'm hoping I'll find some time today to get them repaired. :)

  5. Hope it goes well! I have a few quilts that have been over-loved by my cats, that could use surgery. But I haven't tried it yet!

    1. Thanks! The patient survived. :) The inevitable scarring was not as terrible as I thought it was going to be, and hopefully I'll get photos taken today to post about it.
