WIP: Sisters' 10 Quilting Edition.

I finished my blocks in early October. I finished my quilt top in early December. I'd hoped to have the quilt finished by Christmas, but here we are, early March, and I've just finished the quilting. But no complaints! I'm just thrilled to be done jerking that thing lovingly feeding this glorious quilt through my machine.

The quilting on this 78" square quilt started off easily enough.

More quilt got shoved into the throat space.

Then more quilt.(Yes, that's a peek at the ninjas on the back. The back is...a little eclectic.)

Until done.

I used a gray Mettler thread for the quilting lines. I debated going with a lime in the negative space down the center diagonal, but a lack of the right thread color had been my excuse for not finishing this quilt for a long time, and I didn't want anything else keeping me from getting this done.

Now, to bind. Thoughts? I'm thinking about using a delicious lime solid, and I also thought about using more of the background fabric. My husband (the quilt's recipient) thinks lime or green. But what do you think?

I'm linking up today with WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced featuring Stephanie from Quarter Incher!

  1. Lovely quilt. I really like your fabric placement and the grey open space. Great shots of the sewing machine!

  2. I would agree with lime! I think it'll give it a fun, bright frame. Yay for finally getting it done!! :)

  3. I also LOVE shoving more and more quilt through a tiny throat…. ^_^ Congrats on finishing up your quilting, and I think I'm going to vote for lime green binding too.

  4. My shoulders are STILL aching from last Sunday spent shoving a 60x72 quilt through my machine. I quite literally feel your pain ;-) I don't think you can go wrong with any of the binding choices you've mentioned. I love lime green, so I lean that way, but the background would be cool as well. And, I love the ninjas!!

    1. Oh, I am so with you. My shoulders are aching, and I quilted this really lightly! If you love the ninjas, just wait for the rest of the back. As a friend politely said a couple of days ago, "Ummmm...it kind of doesn't match at all."

  5. Is that a Singer Featherweight? I'm impressed that you're able to use it for quilting. I use one for my patchwork, but have never thought I could quilt on it. Looks like it works fairly well. Best, Kate

  6. This quilt is gorgeous, great choice of colours. I love lime in quilts, just bound my city sampler with wasabi...my favourite :) Look forward to seeing the back.

  7. Oh this is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Hmmm, lately I've been using solid for all my binding, so I think solid lime would look nice. I also like that lime Chicopee print with the black and white zig zags in it. That might look nice too if you want something with a little texture. The backing is too cool!

  8. My first thought before I even got to your question, was 'ooh, lime binding!'. However, the background colour would also work excellently, if your husband was feeling a more subdued vibe (sounds like he's not - so pops of bright colour all the way!). Can't wait to see more of the eclectic back :)
